In this article, we'll discuss two of the most common edits made to existing polygons: merging and splitting. Merging will combine two adjacent polygons, while splitting will create two polygons from one existing polygon.
Merging Polygons
Navigate to Draw Mode (E) and start by selecting multiple polygons (left-click + SHIFT) before selecting Merge (CTRL + M) from the Edit menu.
Note: in order for polygons to be merged, they must be connected or overlapping on at least 1 line. As well, any polygons selected after the very first polygon, will adopt the same attributes (height, colour, etc.) of the first polygon.
Once you have completed the Merge, Save and navigate to Perspectives. Click the edit tool on each perspective for the map, and click 3D Renderer. Click Generate Perspective and once complete, Save.
Splitting Polygons
To split a polygon, begin by selecting the polygon you would like to split, and click on the split tool.
To split the polygon, select New Line and right-click outside of the polygon where you would like to split the polygon. On the opposite side of the polygon, right-click again to place the line. To change the position of this line, left-click and drag on either vertex to the correct position.
MAPPEDIN TIP: When creating your split line, use the lease lines on the basemap to create straight lines that are aligned with the store placement. You can then left-click and drag your split line into place on the polygon you wish to split. Once complete, click Split! to cut the polygon in half.
You can split a polygon as many times as you would like. To do this, click New Line after completing each line. When ready, select Split! to finish the process.
You can also use the Split Tool to split polygons on a curve. To do this:
Navigate to the Spilt Tool
Select New Line and right-click to place two vertex points to build a line
Using the mid-point, left-click and drag the line to create the desired curve
When ready, click Split! to finish the process.
Save your map, and click on Perspectives. Click the edit tool on each perspective for the map, and click 3D Renderer. Click Generate Perspective and once complete, Save.
