Working with Geometry and Directions
Updated over 5 months ago

When Mapping, there are 2 components that are managed using our tools:

Geometry - Polygons are created in 2D, matching with the floor plan of the venue for accuracy. Polygons are then styled and rendered to build the 3D map image that is displayed for consumers.

Directions - Nodes are created and connected together for a network of paths to all locations within the venue. Directions are then built using this network to provide the A-B wayfinding experience for consumers.

Polygons

Creating Polygons

Start in the Draw Tool and follow these steps to build your polygon:

  1. Select the Layer for the polygon

  2. Right-click to start building your polygon

  3. Continue to right-click (placing additional points) to create the shape of your polygon

  4. With your shape complete, left-click anywhere to finish

Note: The Mappedin CMS requires all polygons to be complete geometry, having at least 3 vertex points. For proper data, the system will delete any lines and/or single vertex points you may try to create.

Editing Polygons

To change polygon geometry by moving vertex points:

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the correct Layer

  3. Left-click to select the polygon

  4. Left-click and drag to move any vertex points

  5. Once complete, left-click to select another polygon

To change polygon geometry by removing vertex points:

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the correct Layer

  3. Left-click to select the polygon

  4. Left-click to select the vertex point

  5. Press Delete to remove

To change polygon geometry by adding vertex points:

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the correct Layer

  3. Left-click to select the polygon

  4. Hover over and left-click to select the line to edit

  5. Right-click to create a new point

Quick Tip: When making any changes to polygons, you will need to update the map image itself to show these changes to end-users. This is done by using the 3D Renderer to Generate Perspective.

Nodes

Creating Nodes & Paths

To build a path by connecting regular nodes:

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the Path Layer

  3. Right-click to build your first node

  4. Continue to right-click (placing additional nodes) to build your path

  5. With your path complete, left-click anywhere to finish

To build an entrance node (to represent a location):

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the Path Layer

  3. Hold CTRL + right-click to place the entrance node in the polygon

  4. Right-click anywhere on the blue line to connect the node to the path

  5. Left-click anywhere to finish

Editing Nodes & Paths

To change a path, by moving a node:

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the Path Layer

  3. Left-click to select the node

  4. Left-click and drag to move the node

  5. Once complete, left-click to select another node

To change a path, by removing a node:

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the Path Layer

  3. Left-click to select the node

  4. Press Delete to remove

To change a path, by adding a node:

  1. Navigate to the Draw Tool

  2. Select the Path Layer

  3. Left-click to select the node to start the new path

  4. Right-click to create a new node

  5. Continue to right-click to complete the path

Quick Tip: When making any changes to nodes and paths, be sure to Save Map (under File Menu) to capture your changes. You do not need to generate a perspective when updating nodes & paths.
