Mapping Best Practices
Updated over a week ago

In this article, you'll find best practices to follow when creating and maintaining your maps and wayfinding.

Polygon Best Practices

To help align and make straight lines on your polygons, use the Grid (G) under the Edit menu. This will allow for better visibility on the lines and angles. You can also increase (CTRL + ]) or decrease (CTRL + [) the scale of the grid.

You can also use the Snap (F) feature under the Edit menu, to snap points to the intersecting lines of the grid to create straight corners and lines for your polygons.

Another feature is the Snap to Polygon (V), which allows vertices to be placed on any lines of existing polygons. When using this feature, the vertex will highlight in blue when snapped to the polygon.

You can also Copy (CTRL + C) and Paste (CTRL +V) polygons to quickly build polygons that are the same shape and size. This can be particularly useful when creating kiosks to ensure consistency.

Always generate a new perspective on the Perspectives Dashboard after saving if you are making any updates to geometry in the Maps Dashboard

Node Best Practices

To align nodes easily, select a few of them while holding the SHIFT key, then click Align (A), found in the Edit menu. You can either click on individual nodes, or click and drag a box around them while holding SHIFT.

When manually creating nodes and paths, showing the Grid (G) can help align paths. By clicking this option, a grid will appear on the map, allowing better visibility on lines and angles. The grid scale can increase (CTRL + ]) or decrease (CTRL + [).

Use the Snap (B) feature to only create or move nodes to intersections of grid lines, allowing you to easily create straight lines and correct angles.
