In this article, we’ll discuss two advanced edits you can make to polygons, using the transform tool and creating holes in polygons.
Transforming Polygons
The transform tool allows you to make changes to a polygon’s overall shape, size, and orientation. To access the tool, double left-click on the polygon you wish to edit or Select Tool. This will select all the vertices of the polygon (highlighted in pink) and will place a larger box with anchor points around the polygon.
Using the anchor points, you will be able to alter the physical structure of the selected polygon.
By using one of the corner anchor points, you can increase & decrease the overall size of the polygon.
The middle anchor points allow you to change the shape of the polygon by either increasing or decreasing the size on the horizontal or vertical axis.
You can also use the corner anchor points to rotate the polygon.
Adding Holes to Polygons
To create a hole in a polygon:
Start in Draw Mode (w).
Left-click on the polygon to select it.
Hold CTRL while using right-click to start building a polygon within the selected polygon.
Release CTRL and continue to right-click to build the remaining vertices for the polygon.
As the polygon is built you will see the hole start to be created within the original polygon selected.
You can also use an existing polygon to create a hole in another polygon, to do this:
Select the polygon you want to use to create the hole.
Drag the polygon on-top of the polygon you wish to build a hole in.
Select each polygon, while holding SHIFT.
From the Edit menu, select Geometry and Subtract (CTRL + O).
The hole will be created in the polygon.
