Working with Connections

Connections are a fundamental part of pathing that connect different maps (and floors) to one another. Stairs, escalators and elevators are all examples of connections and are managed in the Connections tab, under the Mapping Mapping Dashboard.

Creating Connections

To create a new Connection:

    • Navigate to the Connections tab, under the Maps Dashboard.

    • Click on Create new map connection.

    • In the Map Connection Information window fill out the required fields and any additional information for the new connection.

    • Next click on Select Connection Nodes to locate it on the map. Remember to select the node for which the first node connects to. A tip: you can use the floor quick select in the bottom right to navigate between floors/levels.

      • It is vital to link the connection with its nodes on all the floors it connects to.

    • If applicable, make sure to check the Wheelchair Accessible box, if it is an accessible connection (e.g. elevator).

    • When complete, be sure to click Create to save your changes.

    • Once created a Connection can be edited or updated at any time, by selecting it from the Map Connection menu and making your edits in the Map Connection Information window. Be sure to click on the blue Save button when finished.

    • If you wish to mark a connection as out of order (ie. for maintenance or repair), check out this article.

    • If you ever want to delete a Connection from your map, simply click on the pink Remove button and you will be prompted to confirm your selection.

Please note: when creating or making changes to connections, it is important to make sure to Save Map ( CTRL + S) and Build Directions (CTRL + B).

Applying Weights and Multipliers

Like nodes, you can assign a Weight or Multiplier to a connection. A connection with a high weight or multiplier value, greater than 1 is less likely to be included when pathing to a destination. This is helpful to avoid congested areas or store fronts. In contrast, a connection with a low weight or multiplier value less than 1 means a path is preferred for users to take. If you are unsure about using weights or multipliers, we recommend leaving them at 0 or 1 respectively.
