Accessing the URL Configurator
The URL Configurator is a visual admin tool built into your Mappedin Web instance. You don't need any technical knowledge to use it. Open the following URL in your browser: https://<your-venue-domain>/#/display-admin
At the top of the page, you'll see three tabs: Display, Print QR, and Deep Link. Each one is designed for a different use case.
Display Tab — For Digital Screens and Kiosks
Use this tab to set up a non-interactive map view for a TV, kiosk, or digital signage display. The map will be locked in place so visitors can look at it but not interact with it, and you can layer on a Blue Dot and QR code overlay.
What to do:
Open the Display tab in the URL Configurator.
Pan, zoom, tilt, and rotate the map until it shows exactly the view you want visitors to see on screen. The coordinate fields update automatically as you move the map.
Drag the TV icon on the map to the physical location of your screen, and set the Facing Direction to match the direction the screen faces.
In Additional Settings, enable Show Blue Dot Facing Screen to place a "You Are Here" marker in front of the screen so visitors can orient themselves.
Enable Show QR Code to overlay a scannable QR code on the display. When a visitor scans it, the map opens on their phone at the same location.
Give it a Tracking ID (for example, main-lobby-tv or arrivals-hall-display) so you can track scan activity in analytics.
Optionally enable Show Floor Header to display the floor name at the top of the screen.
Click Preview to verify the output, then Copy URL and load it in your display system's browser.
Print QR Tab — For Physical Signage
Use this tab to generate a QR code image that can be printed and placed anywhere in your venue. When a visitor scans it, the map opens on their phone with a "You Are Here" Blue Dot already set to the sign's exact location.
This is especially powerful in parking garages and outdoor areas where there's no WiFi infrastructure to support a live display. A printed sign with a QR code gives visitors immediate indoor positioning the moment they step inside.
What to do:
Open the Print QR tab.
Pan the map to the exact physical location where the sign will be placed. The latitude and longitude fields update as you move.
Set the Rotation to match the direction visitors are facing when they approach and scan the sign.
Enable Show Bearing Cone to display a directional cone on the map when visitors scan, so they immediately understand which way they're oriented.
Set a Tracking ID (for example, parking-garage-level-2 or entrance-gate-a) so you can see which signs are getting the most scans in analytics.
Optionally configure Nearby Categories to control what appears in the "What's nearby" section on the visitor's phone after scanning. Leave it at default to show all venue categories, select specific ones to narrow the list, or set it to none to hide the section entirely.
Click Generate QR Code, then Preview as User to see what visitors will experience.
Click Save Image to download a PNG file ready for printing and installation.
Deep Link Tab — For Digital Links and Embeds
Use this tab to create a URL that opens the map directly to a specific screen or state. This is the right tool for anywhere you'd place a link: emails, website pages, kiosk buttons, or digital campaigns.
What to do:
Open the Deep Link tab.
Choose your Target, which controls what the link opens:
Home — the map home screen, with an optional tab pre-selected
Category — a category listing page (for example, "Food & Beverage" or "Gates")
Location — a specific location's profile page
Directions — turn-by-turn directions between two points, with the From and To already set
Fill in the relevant fields for your chosen target. For Directions, select both a From and To location. For Location, you can choose a specific floor instance if the location spans multiple levels.
For Location and Directions targets, choose a View Mode:
Interactive — opens the full experience in the app
Share Card — generates a minimal embeddable card with either a QR code or an Open button, suitable for iframes on a website
Click Preview to verify the experience, then Copy URL to use it wherever you need it.
Tracking and Analytics
Every Display URL and Print QR URL supports a Tracking ID, which is a short identifier you assign to each deployment (for example, lobby-entrance, gate-12-arrivals, parking-lot-b). This ID is embedded in the URL and logged in Mappedin analytics every time a visitor scans or opens that link, so you can see which signs and screens are driving the most engagement.
A few tips for Tracking IDs: keep them lowercase with hyphens, make each one unique per physical location, and use descriptive names that will make sense in a report six months from now.
Ready to Go
Start From Here Deeplinking is available now as part of your Mappedin Web deployment, with no extra setup required and no additional cost. Your Customer Success Manager will send you your venue's URL Configurator link and can walk through any of the three modes with you.
